eBay Giving Works to host nonprofit online fundraising sale for the GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares

The eBay Giving Works program is set to host a nonprofit online fundraising event entitled the GRAMMY Black Friday Auction, which will start on November 29, 2013. The auction will include GRAMMY memorabilia like CDs, guitars, framed Rolling Stones items, among others, plus a VIP Experience Package with GRAMMY’S Person of the Year, to be auctioned off for charity.

The proceeds of the online auction will benefit the GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares. Established in 1989, the GRAMMY Foundation aims to foster the appreciation, understanding, and advancement of the significance of recorded music in American culture. In partnership with The Recording Academy, the group promotes the preservation of cultural heritage. The foundation accomplishes this by organizing programs and activities that engage the music industry, the cultural community, and the public.

MusiCares assists the music community during times of need by offering financial, medical, and personal support. The organization also ensures that the music industry is actively involved in various human services issues and concerns that directly affect the music community. The group is also responsible for naming the MusiCares Person of the Year and organizing the VIP Experience Package.

Functioning as eBay’s primary medium for helping people support different causes all over the world, eBay Giving Works connects charities and nonprofit organizations to eBay sellers and buyers. The program enables sellers to share a portion of their earnings to the charities of their choice and, in turn, also lets buyers help their favorite nonprofit groups and organizations. Furthermore, eBay Giving Works empowers charities by expanding their reach and allowing them to generate more funds at a faster rate.

The eBay Giving Works program works in conjunction with the PayPal Giving Fund in processing the donations and certifying the nonprofit groups. Their nonprofit online fundraising system starts with the sellers choosing a particular nonprofit and pledging 10% to 100% of their sales. The proceeds are then collected, processed, and delivered directly to the charities though the PayPal Giving Fund. In 2012 alone, eBay collected a total of $73 million from their buyers and sellers.
