In the U.S. alone, more than 1.1 million (adults and kids at age 13 and above included) are living with HIV. About 636,000 are diagnosed with AIDS and 15,529 died from it in 2010 (source: CDC). All these staggering facts make awareness and fundraising campaigns truly worthwhile at present.
December 1st is designated as World AIDS Day, but throughout the month or even the whole year, you can raise awareness for HIV/AIDS or help those afflicted with the disease. You might be interested in these creative fundraising ideas that you can fulfill, in part, through the eBay Giving Works program:
Portraits of AIDS
Come up with a theme, such as “A Day in the Life of Someone Living with AIDS” or “How HIV is affecting the world,” and find artists who can create paintings or shoot photographs based on that theme. Have your supporters buy or bid for their masterpieces.
Fight HIV Photo Booth
Let people strike a pose with a printed signage of your awareness campaign motto. They can also customize messages or pledges of their own. A photo booth rental company can donate its equipment and time, or at least sponsor some of the costs, while donations or tickets to the event (your call) can be given/sold online.
If you’re not a nonprofit, you can also direct the proceeds to one of our charities like Project Open Hand, AID FOR AIDS, AIDS Research Alliance of America, AIDS Project Los Angeles, and hundreds of other similar groups.
