If you’re the head of a nonprofit organization, you’ve got to admit that there is a plethora of fundraising ideas out there. Just do a simple Internet search, and voila! You’ll have a list of a thousand ways to raise funds for any sort of cause. However, the main problem when you implement most of these ideas, such as sponsoring an art contest or organizing a concert, is that you have to spend money first and foremost.
Fortunately, there is a great way for your organization to raise money without having to incur a loss first. All you have to do is set up an account with an online charity auction website, and you can start listing items. Of course, while there are goodhearted people out there who are willing to support your cause no matter what, it’s best to go for items that are significantly interesting, unique, or useful.
Don’t list items that are commonly found in retail stores that people can quite easily buy themselves. Have your staff members gather their own items that they are willing to sell for your organization’s benefit.
The items you put on the auction block don’t actually have to be expensive heirlooms or antiques. They can simply be something rare, like a collector’s edition coffee mug or a first-edition of a well-known comic book. If you have some passionate do-it-yourselfers in your group, you can commission them to make something of their own, like a quilt or a doghouse.
